Children's Community Garden
Mountain Laurel's children's garden is a fun opportunity for children and parents alike to explore the interconnection between chemistry, botany, art, and community.
Created through a partnership with the City of Thomas and funded in part through a mini-grant from the Tucker Community Foundation, the children's garden was started in 2015. Since that time, the garden continues to grow, and it also provides the stage for a Spring & Fall curriculum for the elementary students at the Montessori Learning Center.
From lessons on seed germination to soil health and bee habitats to cooking a harvest meal, a wide breadth and depth of topics are covered each year through a curriculum designed by Mountain Laurel Learning Cooperative staff and volunteers. Local guest lecturers also share their time and expertise!
Through the years, our garden program has received financial support from the Potomac Highlands Food and Farm Initiative, the Greater Richmond Foundation, and generous community members.
