FIRST® Robotics at the Learning Center!

We are excited to have Chuck Trautwein and members of the Garrett County Public High School’s FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 1629 (the Garrett Coalition, or “GaCo”) working with our Upper Elementary participants. Last spring, GaCo students brought and taught their STEM Waypoint lessons to the Learning Center.  This year, with help from Chuck, his team, and grant money, our Upper Elementary students have formed two FIRST® LEGO® robotics teams!

FIRST® LEGO® League is the most accessible, guided, global robotics competition, helping students and teachers to build a better future together. The program is built around theme-based Challenges to engage children ages 9 to 16 in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering. The foundation of the program is the FIRST® Core Values, which emphasize teamwork, discovery, and innovation. Students emerge more confident, excited, and equipped with the skills they need in a changing workforce.

On November 16th, the children will compete at the WV School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney, WV. The competition is a full day and includes an innovation project, a robotics competition and a demonstration of “core values”. Students will deliver two presentations before a panel of judges and participate in three rounds of 2 ½ minutes of robotics programming on a challenge course.
